Randall “Randy” M. Rhodes, 71, of Marysville, formerly of Ashland and Bellefontaine, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at The Ohio State University James Medical Center.
Randy was born Jan. 21, 1946, in Columbus to the late Maurice and Janice Morris Rhodes.
He attended Ashland College and graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. Randy served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he received a bronze star medal for bravery.
He married Catherine Myers Laughlin on Jan. 1, 1999.
Randy retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol after 30 years, where he was Trooper of the Year twice. He was a member of the American Legion in Ashland and the N.R.A. Randy enjoyed cooking, working outside in his yard and spending time with his furry friend, Gidget.
Randy will be deeply missed by his wife Catherine of 18 years; children Kelli (James) Hofmann and Kasey (Spencer) Davis, both of Bellefontaine; stepdaughter Stacy (Ed) Riley of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kristen) Rhodes of Tacoma, Wash., Tanisha (Nate) Moss of Columbus, and Blake Kenner II, Kailynn Kenner and Maddox Davis, all of Bellefontaine; great-granddaughter, Kinsley Moss of Columbus; brother, Richard (Glenda) Rhodes of Sugar Hill, Ga.; sister, Margie Rhodes of London, Ohio; nephews, Randy (Christine) Rhodes of Grove City and Robert (Sandy) Rhodes of Suwanee, Ga.; nieces, Rhonda (Mark) Colvin of London, Ohio, and Janice Rhodes of New Jersey.
Randy also was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Rhodes.
Calling begins at 4 p.m. Monday, April 24, at the First Church of God, 1000 E. Brown Ave, Bellefontaine, where a memorial service begins at 6 p.m. with Blake Kenner officiating. Private burial is at Ashland County Memorial Park at a later date, where military rites will be held.
