A Ridgemont High School senior’s extraordinary efforts to make life a little better for his friend, and in turn also help out other members of his community as well, were recognized Thursday evening during the Ridgemont Board of Education meeting.
Honoree Dillon Beiler had been troubled in recent years that his friend, who uses a walker, could not access the school’s football bleachers and as a result, his friend couldn’t view the games very well from ground level. So for Dillon’s Eagle Scout project, the longtime Boy Scout who has been active in the program since firstgrade organized an effort to fundraise, design and construct an approximately $11,000 handicapped accessible ramp for the football stadium, which was installed on school grounds this spring.
“This is one of the biggest Eagle Scout projects I’ve ever heard of,” his Scoutmaster Dave Ramsey from Troop 131 of Mt. Victory said Thursday evening. “Dillon had the idea for about three years, and now in the past year, he has put in many hours to see this carried through.
“That’s a lot of what the Eagle Scout project is about; not just the actual item that you construct, but project management and making plans about what you want to accomplish and then seeing it through.”
