A West Mansfield area teen charged with rape and gross sexual imposition will remain lodged in the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center as prosecutors have moved to classify him as a serious youthful offender.
Jordan Griffin, 15, of 23800 Davis Road, has been in custody since Oct. 25, the day after the mother of girl under the age of 10 reported an incident of sexual abuse on a Benjamin Logan Local School District school bus.
To try Jordan as a serious youthful offender, the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office will have to obtain an indictment from a Logan County grand jury.
If the grand jury returns an indictment, Jordan would face disposition in juvenile court that would result in both juvenile and adult sentences.
Logan County Juvenile Court Judge Kim Kellogg-Martin agreed during Tuesday’s hearing to keep Jordan in JDC for the time being. However, she also wants to review his school plan and a possibility of house arrest with electronic monitoring.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case to determine if there are more victims.
