Levi W. Lile, 86, of 207 W. Auburn Ave., was charged Monday with open burning.
Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department Chief Andy Fissel met with officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department at 2:20 p.m. outside 109 N. Elm St. He told them he personally warned Lile in the past two weeks to stop burning building scraps in a backyard fire pit.
Prior to officers arriving, the chief observed Lile burning pieces vinyl flooring. He and another firefighter put out the fire.
Lile was located at a nearby residence and confronted about the illegal burning. He admitted to starting the fire, reportedly saying, “Yeah, it was me. It won’t be my first time going to court.”
He was issued a summons.
Several lodged in drug-related stops
Cassandra R. Simpson, 23, and Kody R. Triplett, 21, of 1208 Greenwood St., each were charged Friday with drug offenses as part of a hit-skip investigation.
The two were found inside a van outside their residence around 9:30 p.m. Officers were there after troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol requested their assistance.
Officers detected an odor of burnt marijuana upon contact with Triplett outside the van while Simpson tried to hide under a blanket.
A warrants check revealed Simpson was wanted while Triplett handed over a bag of marijuana and both were taken into custody. A plastic bag containing methamphetamine was found in the coin pocket of Triplett’s pants.
A search of the van turned up several marijuana pipes, a pipe for abusing crack cocaine, another baggie with methamphetamine, two white prescription pain reliever pills and a cell phone.
Triplett was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Simpson was lodged on a failure to appear warrant and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a dangerous drug.
Both were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Matthew B. Bugg, 28, at large, was arrested for a felony parole violation and Mandolin L. Alexander, 45, of 1694 Township Road 179, was charged with possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana after a Christmas Day traffic stop.
An officer on patrol observed Alexander operating a van around 5:40 p.m. and initiated a traffic stop as he was aware from past interactions that her driving privileges were suspended.
She drove to the Pink House, 600 Jay Ave., and parked behind the building. Bugg was sitting in a rear passenger seat of the van.
The officer asked about illegal substances in the vehicle and Alexander admitted she had marijuana in the van. A probable cause search found two prescription-only pain reliever pills, an unlocked safe resembling a book with the marijuana, two straws with white residual powder, a glass mirror, a pipe for smoking marijuana and a small glass container with white residue.
Both were lodged in jail.
• David B. Ramos, 28, of 441 Chillicothe Ave., was charged Dec. 21 with felony counts of domestic violence, trafficking in drugs and possession of methamphetamine and lodged on a parole violation.
At 12:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to Lindsey Santoya’s 817 Heritage Court, Apt. 65, residence. She told them the suspect had threatened to harm her with a gun.
He was found outside in a parked car and officers called his parole officer to the scene. A book bag containing methamphetamine and paraphernalia related to packaging, selling and using methamphetamine was found along with dictionary on a rear seat with more methamphetamine paraphernalia.
He was lodged in jail.
Intoxicated woman held for her safety
Ashlynn Brook Manns, 21, of 3436 County Road 13, was charged Friday with public intoxication and possession of marijuana. A mother and daughter brought her to the police department around 2 a.m. concerned Manns was overly intoxicated and need medical attention.
She was detained as officers tried to contact her father. When efforts failed, officers arrested her as she was unable to care for herself. A baggie with marijuana was found in her purse.
Manns was taken to jail where a corrections officers was able to talk with Manns and obtain contact information for her father. She was soon released to his care.
Two face theft charges
Alexander Earl Chambers-Caetano, 29, of 501 Gunntown Road, Lot 94, was charged Christmas Day with theft after he allegedly walked of Speedway, 329 S. Main St., with a quart bottle of beer around 10:45 p.m.
He was stopped while walking south along Main and taken into custody. The bottle of beer was recovered and returned to Speedway.
• Kendall O. Carter, 59, at large, was charged Dec. 22 with theft.
Store security personnel at Walmart, 2281 S. Main St., observed him removing scan codes from 50-cent tumblers and putting the stickers on much more expensive items.
He admitted to scanning more than $500 in merchandises using the tumbler labels.
