Riverside Board of Education members approved at their Tuesday evening meeting a trip for 18 Riverside High School students to attend the National Business Professionals of America Conference, and also approved the lowest bid of $164,990 submitted by the Emnett Construction Company of Portsmouth for the press box replacement project located at the football field.
The board has discussed this press box replacement since the fall of 2017, when they requested further details and different options be made available, including storage options underneath the building that can be utilized all year long.
Members voted 3-1 Tuesday evening for the project, with President Dr. Bradley Adams voting against the measure. He had expressed during previous discussions that he would like to ensure that all classroom needs are met before proceeding with the project. Vice President Robert Bender was absent from the meeting.
Superintendent Scott Mann said the construction of a new press box is greatly needed, as the district is not able to simply make repairs to the structure because it does not meet the current building code.
