It’s like speed dating in its efficient process, but a recent special event at Indian Lake High School focused on building a business partnership, instead of a love connection.
The ILHS College and Career Readiness students recently took part in Power Pace Speed Interviews with dozens of local employers in a wide variety of industries.
Mostly junior-level students sat down for one-on-one and group question and answer sessions with representatives from local law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, medical services, construction, automotive industries and more. The mock interviews serve as valuable experience for the young people just entering the workforce and for employers hoping to find a steady source of solid employees.
“I want you on my team as much as you want to be on my team, so let your excitement shine through,” explained marketer Shannon Reese from Small Nation developers.
Logan County Electric Cooperative’s Michael Wilson advised, “Think ahead and tell me a story about yourself that shows who you are, your character. Then I’ll remember you.”
Local employers encouraged the pupils to have confidence and be unique because there’s never been a better time to be looking for a job.
Employers evaluated the students on their interview performance and gave feedback for improvement.
The interviews were arranged by the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center’s Youth Development program.
