Special Olympics Ohio hosts the eighth annual Freezin’ for a Reason Indian Lake Polar Plunge on Saturday, March 18, at Old Field Beach.
Participants raise monetary pledges to either jump in the frigid waters or to participate as a chicken, and receive a T-shirt for not jumping into the water.
Registration is 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Indian Lake Moose Lodge, 11044 Lake St., Lakeview. Participants then travel to Old Field Beach where there is a costume contest from 1:15 to 1:30 p.m., with the plunge beginning immediately after. Participants and spectators who make a donation can then attend a post-plunge party at the Moose Lodge, during which awards will be presented to the top fundraising teams and individuals.
The 2016 Indian Lake Polar Plunge raised nearly $19,000 for Special Olypmics, which provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for more than 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
