Riverside’s softball team wrapped up a perfect run in the Northwest Central Conference by sweeping host Waynesfield-Goshen on Saturday.
The Pirates won the first game 11-3 and took the second game 13-3 in six innings to secure the outright league championship.
“It means a lot to us to win the league title,” said Riverside head coach Andy Phelps. “Every year that is our number one goal to be the best in the league. The girls have been working hard all year to get that title and it’s great to see them rewarded for their hard work.”
Riverside last won the NWCC title in 2013 when they were co-champs and were outright champions in 2012.
The pair of wins boosts the Pirates’ record to 22-1 overall, which is a new school record for wins in a season. RHS also finishes a flawless league record at 11-0.
“Winning 22 games is a great feeling,” said Phelps. “Beating the school record that has been in place since 1999 is a great accomplishment. I can’t say enough about the time and effort these girls have put into this season. They are just playing as a team and that is why we are having success.”
