Talk is not always cheap.
When the topic is drug abuse, parents’ conversations with their children about the perils can be priceless, said Bellefontaine Police Officer Andrew Kennedy.
“We definitely see the importance of parents reinforcing the message we’re delivering to kids at school,” he said. “According to the governor’s office, kids whose parents talk to them about drugs are 50 percent less likely to abuse.
“I know that when I encounter high school students who chose to live a drug-free life, they tell me their the parents had a big impact on their decisions.”
To encourage and spread the practice, Officer Kennedy and the five members of the Bellefontaine City School drug-free committee will host Time to Talk at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Bellefontaine High School cafeteria.
He expects the event will last around one hour and parents should leave with information that can help them talk with their children about drug and substance abuse.
