Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office handled a pair of related crashes early Thursday morning on State Route 274 near County Road 23, with the first crash at 1:12 a.m. sending one person to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Driver Renee G. Conaway, 54, of Wapakoneta, was transported by Indian Lake EMS to the hospital following the crash. A second motorist, Robert C. Irwin, 26, of Jackson Center, was checked at the scene of the crash by Indian Lake EMS personnel, but was not transported from the scene.
Deputies report Irwin was operating a westbound 2004 Ford Mustang when he drove off the south side of the road and then came back onto the roadway, driving head-on into an eastbound 2015 Ford Escape operated by Conaway.
The impact of the crash sent the Conaway vehicle off the north side of the road into an agricultural field. The Irwin vehicle was disabled and came to a rest in the eastbound lane of S.R. 274. Damage was heavy to both vehicles and the drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Deputies said Irwin was fatigued/starting to fall asleep at the time of the crash, and he was cited for failure to control.
In the second crash at 1:24 a.m., an eastbound semi tractor-trailer operated by Chance M. Coil, 24, of Raymond, struck the disabled Irwin vehicle that was still located in the eastbound lane of S.R. 274, without any headlights or hazard lights illuminated.
The semi struck the car and the impact sent the car into another vehicle, a 2019 Ford Fiesta operated by Jordan E. Seitz, 22, of Jackson Center, that was stopped in traffic for the previous accident.
Following the collision, the semi went off the south side of the road into a corn field.
Damage was heavy to the semi, which was towed from the scene, and light to the Seitz vehicle. No citations were issued in the second crash.
