Jeremy Lawrence, 38, of Waynesfield, and Ashly Carter, 32, of 228 Second St., Russells Point, each was issued felony charges for possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence following a traffic stop late Thursday evening.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department who were on patrol about 11:15 p.m. in the area of U.S. Route 33 and Township Road 239 observed criminal indicators with Mr. Lawrence’s vehicle and initiated the traffic stop.
While speaking with Mr. Lawrence, officers observed signs of intoxication, and he reportedly had difficulty exiting his vehicle. He then allegedly began acting aggressively toward officers, and was ordered to the ground with a Taser. He complied with the orders.
Upon talking with the passenger, Ms. Carter, officers learned that the pair had attempted to destroy glass smoking pipes during the traffic stop. A Shelby County Sheriff’s Office canine was dispatched to the scene, and alerted on the vehicle. Officers recovered methamphetamine, smoking pipes and digital scales were recovered from the vehicle.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
The two defendants also were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and Mr. Lawrence was charged with disorderly conduct. They were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Brandel Barger, 32, of 8847 Maple St., Lakeview, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following a traffic stop about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officers on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 33 just west of Russells Point observed several traffic violations with his eastbound vehicle and initiated the stop on State Route 366 at Lincoln Boulevard.
Officers observed signs of intoxication and Mr. Barger submitted to field sobriety tests. He was transported to the jail, where he refused to take a blood alcohol concentration test.
The defendant also was cited for failure to yield, no taillight and received an open container violation.
