James Rasnick, 48, of Belle Center, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs relating to a traffic stop about 2:25 p.m. Monday.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol for school traffic near State Route 274 and State Route 235 observed a silver Mazda travel over the center line several times.
Officers quickly initiated a traffic stop, identifying the driver as Rasnick. While speaking with him, officers observed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. The defendant was asked to exit the vehicle and officers observed that he was swaying and unsteady on his feet.
Rasnick denied having anything to drink. He tried to complete field sobriety tests, but failed the tests. He was transported to the Logan County Jail and refused to submit to a breath test.
Rasnick also was charged with OVI refusal and was cited for failure to drive within marked lanes. He has prior OVI arrests in 2020 and in 2011.
