Detectives from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an overnight garage fire at 8724 County Road 2, Zanesfield, as a possible arson, and officials from the state fire marshal’s office have been contacted to continue the investigation.
Perry Township Fire Department firefighters were dispatched about 12:45 a.m. today to the property, where the garage was fully engulfed in flames. They met with resident Jeff O’Hara, who said his mother woke him up to tell him the garage was on fire, and he immediately went outside to begin moving cars away from the garage.
Firefighters alerted deputies about the possible arson nature of the fire after O’Hara noted that there was no power to the garage and also named a possible suspect who might have set the fire.
The garage was a total loss, and O’Hara said the garage is owned by his grandmother, Ruby Everly. The items inside were valued at $2,000 and belonged to him, including an air compressor, chainsaws, tools, air conditionsers and weight equipment. Also damaged in the fire was a 2006 Honda Odyssey, a 2003 Honda Pilot and a zero-turn lawn mower.
The investigation continues.
