The West Liberty Village Council wants to situate its next police department at 111 Runkle St., and is currently negotiating with the owner of the building over terms of sale.
Council’s wish to purchase that building was formalized Thursday in a special council meeting that included first reading of an ordinance authorizing the purchase of real estate for renovation and use by police department.
“Council desires to enter into an agreement … and purchase the premises for $130,000 provided certain contingencies are met,” reads the ordinance, the passage of which was passed following an approximately 25-minute executive session.
Mayor Greg Hostetler and fiscal officer Cindee Boyd said after the meeting that negotiations continue concerning the “contingencies” in question. They called the ordinance passed Thursday, “mostly symbolic.”
“This gets the ball rolling for us, but those details are still being worked out,” the mayor said.
