The public pool opened in 1968 and much of the concrete has not been updated since, Parks Superintendent Kris Myers told board members as he pointed out areas that will need to be fixed. He said he plans to address concrete issues — including the crumbling steps leading from the parking lot to the main entrance — in the 2018 budget.
Myers also updated the board on the progress of a sand volleyball court that was constructed by Christian Cooper as an Eagle Scout project. As part of the project, Cooper raised $2,300 for sand, but Myers said the sand required for a sand volleyball court would likely cost about $5,000. He said he believes the project can be complete this year after the Aug. 13 closing of the pool.
The group also got updates on the condition of the slide, the pump house, the baby pool and damage caused recently by vandals.
