Seventh-grade pupils from around the county had the chance Thursday to see and feel different aspects of many different careers, including the weight of firefighter turnout gear and accompanying oxygen tank, how to complete a spirometry test measuring their lung function and viewing up close some of the elements used in the funeral business, during the second annual Seventh-Day Career Day.

Representatives from more than 40 different professions in Logan County lined the Riverside Schools gymnasium at booths featuring equipment from their various trades during the event for seventh-graders from the host school, along with pupils from Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake schools.
“The kids have very good questions; they’re naturally very curious,” said Kyle Van Horn from Eichholtz, Daring & Sanford Funeral Homes & Cremation Center, while showing students a display of mortuary cosmetics and explaining how to apply them to a wax figure bust at his table.
“It’s been a lot of fun being out here today,” said Mary Rutan Hospital respiratory therapist Niki Thomas. “Probably the most popular question I’ve been asked is what’s been my best day and worst day on the job, and also the schooling requirements involved.”
