PAT O’DONNELL |
The hearing on the firing of an Indian Lake superintendent who has been charged with sex crimes is being postponed, school district officials report.
Pat O’Donnell, 52, who is facing multiple counts of rape, sexual battery and gross sexual imposition charges for alleged sexual contact with a girl between the ages of 10 and 13, was notified of the school board’s decision to terminate his contract at the end of June. He filed an appeal and a hearing in front of a referee appointed by the Ohio Department of Education was originally scheduled for Aug. 4.
That hearing date has been postponed until a later date. The appeal hearing, however, will not be a public hearing, school officials report. The superintendent has been placed on unpaid leave.
He is awaiting a Nov. 28 trial on the allegations.
HEATHER O’DONNELL |
O’Donnell’s wife, Heather O’Donnell, 46, superintendent of the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center, has been charged with two counts of child endangering for failing to report allegations of abuse. Her trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 30. The ESC board has set a special meeting for 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, to discuss personnel issues.
