Norman J. Johnson, 82 of Belle Center passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019. He was born on Nov. 25, 1936, to Thomas and Mildred (Orr) Johnson in Bellefontaine. He graduated in 1954 from Belle Center High School. He enlisted in the Army in January of 1955 and was sent to Fort Knox, Kentucky and later Fort Belvoir, Va., where he received training for heavy equipment before being sent to Germany where he was a mechanic.
SP3 Johnson returned home in January of 1958. In February of 1961, he married Mary Anne Fink and she preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2016. Together they had five children, Norman (Tina) Johnson, Jr. of West Mansfield, Theresa (John) Krock of Kenton, Brad (Pam) Johnson of Minnesota, Alan (Angel) Johnson of Belle Center and Amanda Johnson of Findlay.
He is also survived by two sisters, Joy (Jim) Miller and Beverly (Bill) Blair both of Belle Center and three grandsons, Nicholas, Landon and Cameron. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jaylyn. He worked at Rockwell International in Kenton where he helped establish a Credit Union.
In 1969 and served as its first president. For many years, Norman owned and operated Norman Johnson Implement where he sold farm machinery. He also farmed. He was a member of the Williard Stout Legion Post 266 in Belle Center.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Schindewolf-Stout- Crates Funeral Home. A funeral service begins at noon, Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 at the Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Belle Center Fairview Cemetery.
