A veteran of the Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Services Board of Logan and Champaign Counties has been promoted to take over the executive director position.
Tammy Nicholl, who has been service system director with the board since July 2005, was appointed during a special meeting Tuesday to replace David Higgins, who is retiring May 14.
Nicholl, 53, a Logan County native and current resident of the West Liberty area, said she plans to finish her career in the position and said she is preparing to lead the local agency as it continues to confront drug and mental health issues.
“Addiction is now and likely will continue to be a major focus of what we address,” she said. “Whether it remains opiates or there is a switch to other drugs, I think it will continue to be an issue.
“We also need to see the connection substance abuse has with other mental health issues and suicide and fill the gaps in the services we are providing.”
