The Bellefontaine First Church of God, 1000 E. Brown Ave., is collecting clothing and household items for the Ryan and Julie Smith family, whose 1220 N. State Route 235 home was destroyed by fire Tuesday.
Clothing needs are:
• men’s shoes size 11 1/2 – 12; pants 34-inch waist and inseam; large size shirts;
• women’s shoe size 9; pants 10; shirts medium;
• girl shoes sizes 11 and 1; clothes sizes 4 and 6; and
• boy shoe size 10; pants 34-inch waist with 32-inch inseam; and large shirt.
The family also needs beds, a couch and other household furnishings.
Donations can be dropped off at the church offices.
Family loses 2 dogs in fire but teenage son escapes injury
An 18-year-old escaped injury, but two dogs were claimed in an early morning fire north of DeGraff, authorities report.
DeGraff firefighters were called about 2 a.m. today to respond to a 1220 N. State Route 235 home that was fully engulfed in flames, DeGraff Fire Chief Buck Reames said.
Conan Martin, 18, was home at the time of the fire but his parents were working late, the chief said.
The home is owned by Michael L. and Linda Smith, according to property records of the Logan County Auditor’s Office.
The structure was a total loss and two dogs died in the blaze, Chief Reames said.
The cause was still under investigation this morning.
Firefighters from Bellefontaine, Quincy, Lakeview, Indian Joint, Huntsville and Jackson Center fire departments provided assistance along with an Indian Lake EMS squad.
