The Born and Raised in Logan County Market Goat show may be new, but Logan County’s youths were eager to get their hands dirty Thursday night in the show arena. With 27 kids and a total of 46 goats, Grace Barger, 18, and Garrett Horsley, 15, showed goats which stood out above the rest.
Grace, a Benjamin Logan graduate, earned the grand champion title. The judge liked the goat’s rib shape and muscle mass.
“I definitely learned to be dedicated to something other than myself,” said Grace. “Waking up early and balancing a social life while raising my goats was also very challenging.”
She’s raised goats for seven years.
“It teaches you that hard work pays off,” said Grace.
Taking the reserve grand champion title was Garrett Horsley, a sophomore at Benjamin Logan High School.
“Working long hours pays off in the long run,” he said.
Garrett also has raised goats for seven years.
“Trying not to kill it is a challenge in itself,” he said, “and balancing my time with everything else I like to do, too.”
