Heather L. Johns, 37, of Waynesfield, was charged Monday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after she crashed her car into a building at RD Holder, 706 W. Sandusky Ave., around 10:10 p.m. She also was issued a traffic citation for failure to control.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report she was eastbound, traveled left of center and off the roadway, striking and shearing off a utility pole before slamming into the building.
She was receiving treatment from Bellefontaine Fire and EMS personnel when officers arrived. She was soon transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for further treatment.
An open 24-ounce can of alcohol-infused tea was found on the floorboard of her car.
Officers spoke with her at the hospital and detected an odor of alcohol. She refused to voluntarily give a blood sample for laboratory analysis so officers obtained a warrant to secure a sample.
She was transferred to another hospital for further treatment.
• Zachary R. Baker, 21, of 813 Heritage Court, Apt. 44, was charged Monday with OVI and issued a citation for running a red light during an 8:40 p.m. traffic stop. A passenger, Hunter D. Hatcher-Hook, 23, of 1010 Heritage Court, was charged with possession of marijuana.
Baker was operating a southbound pickup truck on Main Street and was observed driving through the intersection at Chillicothe Avenue under a red light.
Upon contact, the officer detected an odor of marijuana. Baker’s eyes were bloodshot and his motor skills were slow and methodical, the officer reports. The motorist also was very relaxed.
Field sobriety tests indicated Baker was under the influence of marijuana and a urine sample was collected at the department offices for laboratory testing.
Hatcher-Hook was charged with possession of marijuana after a bag was found in a side pocket of his shorts. He experienced medical issues and was transported by a Bellefontaine squad to MRH for further treatment.
Baker was released to a sober driver.
