Kyle W. Poe, 28, of 850 Bonnie Lane, Apt. 712, was charged Thursday with illegal possession of a prescription drug, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and having a open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle after at 12:50 a.m. crash in 500 block of east Chillicothe Ave.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report Poe was eastbound and dropped his eyeglasses while cleaning. He reached down to retrieve the glasses while his car veered to the right and struck the rear of a sport utility vehicle registered to Carrie L. Dolan of Bellefontaine.
Damage was significant to both vehicles and Poe was checked at the scene of Bellefontaine squad personnel.
A grinder, rolling papers and several remnants of marijuana cigarettes were spotted on the passenger seat. A probable cause search found four unopened cans of alcoholic tea, an open can of alcoholic tea, two vape pens used for marijuana products, a sandwich baggie with 21 prescription pain relievers were found in the car and the defendant’s coat.
Field sobriety tests did not indicate Poe was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
Officers noted there is no record Poe has ever had a valid driver’s license. He was issued traffic citations for failure to control, no operator’s license and driving under suspension.
