Christina J. Edwards, 60, of 1316 S. Detroit St., Lot 18, was charged Saturday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. She also was issued traffic citations for no headlights, a turn signal violation and slow speeds.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol at 1:15 a.m. observed a southbound sport utility vehicle traveling extremely slow and over the center line on Detroit Street north of Carlisle Street.
The officer turned his cruiser around to pace the SUV and reported it was traveling at 12 mph in a 25-mph zone. At Carlisle, the motorist turned abruptly without using a turn signal. The officer observed additional turn signal violations and that the motorist was switching the headlights on and off and flashing the brights.
A traffic stop was initiated after the motorist turned left onto Malone Avenue and crossed the center line before overcorrecting off the right side of the street.
While interacting with Edwards, the officer detected an odor of alcohol.
Field sobriety testing indicated she was impaired by alcohol and her breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.129.
She was released to a sober driver.
• Devonte E. Brown, 27, of 868 E. Sandusky Ave., Apt. 117, was charged Saturday with having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Officers on patrol found him at 3:50 a.m. passed out in a reclined driver’s seat of a parked car in a municipal parking lot at the corner of Detroit Street and Columbus Avenue. The motor was running, officers report.
After multiple knocks on the driver’s door window, Brown woke up and rolled down the window. Officers noted an odor of burnt marijuana when he did so.
He agreed to field sobriety testing and submitted a urine sample for laboratory testing.
He was released to a sober driver.
• Charles A. Bolin, 26, of Urbana, was charged Saturday with having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
At 3:35 a.m., officers were in the 100 block of south Detroit Street and heard a vehicle’s horn honking. They spotted a pickup truck parked in a public parking lot with its lights on and motoring running.
Bolin was found inside the pickup with the driver’s seat fully reclined kissing a city woman. Upon contact, officers detected an odor of alcohol.
Bolin declined to participate in sobriety field testing but agreed to provide breathalyzer which was recorded at 0.132.
He was released to his ex-fiance, who is the owner of the pickup.
• Garry L. Jones, 61, of 7247 Township Road 166, West Liberty, was issued traffic citations for leaving the scene of a crash on private property and failure to control after a 4 p.m. crash in the parking lot of Taco Bell, 1500 S. Main St.
He reportedly drove into a parking space in a pickup truck and hit the rear quarter panel of a car registered to Tyler M. Watkins, 29, of 501 Gunntown Road, Lot 98. After parking the pickup, Jones exited the driver’s side and the door hit and dented the side of Watkins’ car.
Watkins told Jones he was going to call the police at which point, Jones went into Taco Bell, picked up a food order, returned to his pickup and drove off.
Watkins provided a license plate number and officers used it to track down Jones.
Deputies of the Bellefontaine Police Department made contact with Jones and he, in turn, met with officers at the police department at 5:45 p.m. He told officers his son drove him to the department.
Jones acknowledged drinking two beers prior to the crash and leaving because he feared he would be charged if he stuck around the crash scene. He claimed he continued to consume alcohol after arriving home, hence the reason his son drove him to meet officers.
