BRANDYBERRY |
A Lakeview man led authorities on a chase that started in Bellefontaine and reached speeds of 90 mph west of town.
Frank L. Brandyberry, 52, of 180 N. Oak St., Lakeview, was arrested about 1:45 a.m. Saturday after a foot pursuit with law enforcement in the village. He was charged with felony fleeing and drug possession.
About 9:30 p.m. Friday, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were patrolling near a residence in the 100 block of north St. Paris Street for suspected drug activity.
They saw a white Toyota Corolla operated by Mr. Brandyberry leave the property and fail to use a turn signal. Officers attempted a traffic stop on Garfield Avenue at Troy Road. Mr. Brandyberry stopped but then fled west on County Road 130 driving erratically at speeds upwards of 90 mph, officers report.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit near County Road 91 before the suspect made a right turn onto County Road 39, which dead ends before crossing U.S. Route 33. The car reportedly left the road through a field and officers got out to check the area on foot. They could see the car parked in the distance, but as they approached, it drove back through the field and continued to flee south on County Road 130.
Officers obtained the suspect’s license plate number and stopped their pursuit to avoid endangering public safety. They searched the field and found a substance they believe to be heroin.
The suspect was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
He recently was cited with multiple charges for his involvement in a May 7 hit-skip crash.
Two arrested on drug charges
Two men were arrested Thursday afternoon on drug-related charges after officers followed a vehicle driving suspiciously.
Officers began following the vehicle about 4:16 p.m. on Main Street near Augusta Avenue and initiated a traffic stop on south Detroit Stret at Iron Avenue.
The driver, Matthew K. Renner, 21, of 1888 County Road 25, Lot 129, was charged for driving under suspension and a search of his person also turned up marijuana, for which he was also charged. He is being held in the Logan County Jail this weekend on a probation violation.
A passenger, Landon R. Dickinson, 19, of 609 Jay Ave., admitted to having marijuana but a search of his wallet also turned up a plastic bag that preliminary tests indicated was powder cocaine. He was charged with felony possession of cocaine and the misdemeanor marijuana possession and also remained in jail Friday.
