Norman E. McClain Jr., 23, of 116 N. Oak St., Lakeview, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for reckless operation while his father, Norman E. McClain Sr., 50, of 1431 Wright St., was charged with obstructing official business after a 3:40 a.m. traffic stop Sunday.
The younger McClain was stopped on the ramp from U.S. Route 68 onto westbound U.S. Route 33 after an officer on stationary patrol heard sounds of tires squealing and a revving car engine.
The officer was talking with the motorist when the father approached the stop. He was warned to leave the scene, but would not.
The father was arrested and placed in a cruiser.
An odor of alcohol was detected on the son and field sobriety tests indicated he was intoxicated.
He also reportedly admitted to a burnout in the parking lot of Waffle House, 1133 N. Main St.
He did not provide a breathalyzer sample.
Cash taken in robbery
An employee of Tim Horton’s, 514 S. Main St., reported a named male grabbed cash from a register drawer and ran out around 10:20 p.m. Sunday. He was wearing black pants and a red coat.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are investigating.
