Travis A. Johnson, 34, of 7266 Hardin Drive, Russells Point, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following a traffic incident Wednesday evening.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 9:10 p.m.to the area of State Route 347 near State Route 287 in reference to a possible injury crash.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a vehicle with front end damage and damage to the driver’s side and passenger’s side, including mud stuck in the rims.
The driver, Johnson, was being assessed by Allen Township EMS personnel upon deputies’ arrival. Deputies observed an odor of alcoholic beverage on his person, and he advised that he had been “drinking and driving.”
Johnson told deputies he had been drinking at a bar in the Marysville area and was on his way home. He said he believed he had struck an animal with his vehicle about 20 minutes prior.
Officers of the North Lewisburg Police Department reported damage to a yard at 8320 State Route 559 in Logan County, and deputies responded to investigate. They found vehicle parts to the scene, including a side mirror that reportedly matched the description of Johnson’s vehicle.
The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. At the Logan County Jail, he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.221 blood alcohol content. He was also cited for failure to control, and was released to a sober driver.
Possession of drugs charge filed
Shawn F. Stevens, 25, of 11240 State Route 117, Belle Center, was charged with possession of drugs relating to an incident Wednesday.
About 5 p.m., deputies responded to 7033 W. State Route 117, Belle Center, to serve a warrant to another individual. They observed Stevens sitting in a vehicle in the driveway, and noted that they also had a Logan County Common Pleas Court summons to serve to Stevens.
While speaking with the defendant, deputies said his eyes were bloodshot and he had constricted pupils. He was asked to exit the vehicle, and deputies noticed a plastic bag and a razor blade in the driver’s seat.
The bag reportedly contained a hard candy-like substance and also multiple pink and white capsules, identified as the prescription drug hydroxyzine pamoate.
During a pat down search of his person, deputies also located suspected marijuana in his pocket.
Stevens was placed under arrest and transported to the jail. The candy-like substance was tested and yielded a positive detection for possible methamphetamine.
Truck driver cited in C.R. 31 crash
Steven E. Linet, 43, of Zanesfield, was cited for failure to yield as a result of a crash Wednesday morning.
Deputies report he was operating an eastbound single-unit truck on Township Road 45 about 10:50 a.m. and stopped at the stop sign at County Road 31. He pulled into the intersection and was struck by a northbound 2010 Honda Odyssey operated by Steven P. Westlake, 55, of DeGraff.
Westlake was checked at the scene by Riverside EMS personnel, but was not transported. Linet did not report any injuries. Damage was light to the truck and was heavy to the minivan, which was towed from the scene. The drivers were wearing their seat belts.
