Drivers face OVI charges
Michael A. Steineman, 32, of 8959 Maple St., Huntsville, was charged Sunday with OVI and resisting arrest after a 12:45 a.m. traffic stop.
He was observed in northbound pickup truck at Main Street and Sandusky Avenue suddenly changing from the left-turn only lane into the northbound lane.
More lane violations were observed by the patrolling officer until a stop was made in the 600 block of north Park Street. Upon contact with Steineman, officers noted an odor of alcohol and that his speech was slurred and he had trouble keeping coherent thoughts.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired by alcohol. He was placed in handcuffs and became agitated, telling officers he had passed a sobriety test a week ago.
He broke away from the officers and began running southbound. He was captured after a short chase.
At the jail, he provided a breathalyzer sample of 0.175.
He was cited for weaving and failure to drive in the marked lanes of the road.
• Tori L. Alty, 51, of 425 Kelly Way, was charged Friday with OVI and cited for failure to drive in the marked lanes of the road and shortcutting an intersection.
A retired police officer alerted dispatchers around 11 p.m. of a northbound motorist who was northbound on U.S. Route 68 heading into the city. He reported the motorist was driving all over the road.
An officer on patrol observed Alty in the 1700 block of south Main Street and began following. He watched as she entered the parking lot of Tractor Supply Co., 1651 S. Main St., drive across the lot and onto Kent Drive. She was stopped at Kent and Wright Street.
Field sobriety tests indicated she was impaired by alcohol. She refused to provide a breathalyzer sample.
