A Bellefontaine woman faces charges for encouraging a 16-year-old boy to tattoo her 10-year-old son.
Nikki J. Dickinson, 34, of 1600 S. Detroit St., Apt. 41, was charged Friday with first-degree misdemeanor child endangering and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Municipal Prosecutor Daniel D. Carey alleges Dickinson endangered her son by allowing the tattoo to occur in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. She also encouraged and enabled Kyle Richardson, 16, of 8988 King Road, Lakeview, to perform the work.
Kyle has been charged with two delinquency counts of tattooing prohibitions, both misdemeanors of the fourth-degree if committed by an adult.
According to the Logan County Juvenile Court complaint filed by the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, Kyle performed a tattoo “procedure in a manner that does not meet the safety and sanitations standards” set by state law.
He also did not meet “standards for appropriate disinfection and sterilization of invasive equipment or parts of equipment.”
Dickinson took a cell phone video of the tattoo in progress on Sept. 24 and the video was shared via online social media.
Detectives of the Bellefontaine Police Department investigated and referred the case to prosecutors.
Logan County Children’s Services also was notified of the incident.
Under state law, minors can receive tattoos with parental consent, but it must be done in a safe and sanitary manner.
