Miriam A. Shafer Lescalleet, 99, of Zanesfield, passed away at 9:59 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.
She was born in Shelby County, Ohio on November 7, 1922, the daughter of the late Philemon and Elizabeth (Phister) Watkins.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Stanley Shafer, Sr. in 2002 and Robert K. Lescalleet in 2019; a son, Raymond Allen Shafer and four sisters.
She is survived by two sons; Stanley ‘Ike’ (Cathi) Shafer, Jr. of Worthington, OH and Jeff (Vicki) Shafer of DeGraff, OH, 14 grandchildren; Raymond ‘Skip’ Shafer, Rose Ann Zarling, Kristie (Larry) Royer, Monte (Carol) Shafer, Aimie (Steve) Fry, Stan (Jerrie) Shafer, Vikki (Dale) Arseneau, Si Shafer, Cara (Tom) West, Michael (Sara) Shafer, Cody Shafer, Kevin Shafer, Michelle (Jonathan) Matthews, and Candace (Alan) Coggins, many great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Miriam was a 1940 graduate of Indian Lake High School where she was valedictorian. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine and also attended Zanesfield Community Chapel with her late husband, Bob Lescalleet. She was Past President of the United Methodist Women and was member of several flower clubs, including flower judging at the state level for a number of years.
Pastors Joe Ziraldo and Keith Matthews will officiate a funeral service at 12Noon on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, OH 43311 where visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery.
