Deputies met with a 13-year-old Benjamin Logan Middle School girl and her mother Wednesday evening at the sheriff’s office regarding an incident that occurred at her school that morning.
The girl told deputies that she was in the school cafeteria Wednesday morning and two male students offered her a drink of a liquid in a cup with a lid and straw. She said she tried the liquid and said it tasted funny, and then about 15 minutes later, she began to feel tired and drowsy and then became anxious and felt like her heart was racing.
She said after her second class, she was called to the principal’s office, where she was asked about the liquid she drank that morning. While the girl said she did not know what it was, school officials said it appeared that the liquid was a mixture of cough syrup mixed with alcohol, sometimes referred to as “Lean.”
The girl’s mother said she took her daughter to Mary Rutan Hospital after school, and provided deputies with a copy of her test results that were positive for opiates.
Deputies were following up with school officials this morning regarding the incident.
