Michael Evan Bogard, AKA “Mike”, “Bogie”, “Pappy” of Lakeview, passed away on October 26th at 59 years old of sudden cardiac arrest after a brief, but spirited, battle with metastatic lung cancer.
Mike was born in Kettering, Ohio on October 4th of 1963. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delegate Bogard and his parents Alan Bogard and Patricia Musick. He is survived by his mother, Linda; his brothers, Alan (Julie) and Tony (Amy), and sister Mary Bogard; his five daughters Hannah (Philip) Wischmeyer, Carly Bogard, Kayla Sapa, Joy Sapa, and Madison Compton; and his grandchildren Blake, Boone, Flossie, and Ivo; along with many close family and friends.
Mike grew up in Vandalia and Huber Heights. He dropped out of high school to join the military and shortly after met his first love Jenny (Kistler) Bogard. They spent 30 hard and beautiful years together raising two daughters, building several businesses and eventually, their dream home on Indian Lake, before parting ways.
Mike was lucky to spend 5 years of his later-life boating, cruising and cracking jokes with his loving and devoted wife, Delegate (Ioane) Bogard and her daughters, before her devastating loss in November of 2020. Together they spent their days building a new life and enjoying the company of their blended family. Although their time was limited, they made family a top priority and ensured the same with their daughters.
Mike was a collector of the bizarre, a car enthusiast, an avid boater and a religious Bengals fan.
He built many homes around the lake and was almost wizardly in his ability to make the impossible, possible. He didn’t waste his life following the arbitrary rules of the world – he lived according to his own code. He was rough around the edges, politically incorrect and usually out of line but he was honest and kind-hearted and he always showed up. He relished in small victories and lived every day exactly as he wished.
His family will be holding a celebration of life at his home at 370 S. Oak St. Lakeview, Ohio 43331 on November 12th at 1 PM. Please BYO dish, chair and favorite beverage. Join us for one last, epic, Sassafrasesque Bogie-style party!
