Kyle Hatmaker, 33, of 6299 State Route 287, West Liberty, was charged with a felony count of possession of methamphetamines following a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol about 3 p.m. in the 500 block of Ludlow Road observed the defendant’s pickup and noted that he has an expired driver’s license.
A traffic stop was initiated in a driveway at 716 Eastern Ave. Officers noted that the driver, Mr. Hatmaker, would not make eye contact with them and his hands were shaking.
During a search of his person, officers located a container with a white powdery and rocky substance consistent with methamphetamine in his pockets, along with a bag that contained a clear glass pipe. Officers also located two needles in his pockets, which the defendant said were for his diabetic needs.
Officers also performed a search of the vehicle, and recovered another container with suspected methamphetamine, a spoon with white residue, a silver scraper and two additional needles.
A passenger in the vehicle, Joseph Isaacs, 27, of Milford Center, had an active warrant out of Union County, and was transported to the Logan County Jail to be picked up by Union County deputies. Another passenger was interviewed and released.
Mr. Hatmaker told officers that the methamphetamine found in the vehicle belong to him, and he was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Motorist charged with OVI
Tyler B. Hoghe, 34, of Van Wert, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following a traffic stop about 1:20 a.m. Saturday.
Officers on patrol observed his vehicle make a wide northbound turn onto Main Street from the parking lot of Route 68 Grill, 1141 S. Main St., and continue northbound on Main Street where officers observed marked lanes and speed violations. The traffic stop was initiated in the area of Auburn Avenue and Madriver Street.
Officers report the driver displayed signs of intoxication, and he submitted to sobriety tests.
At the police department, Mr. Hoghe submitted to a blood alcohol concentration test, and tested 0.94 and 0.93. He also was cited for marked lanes, speed and failure to use his turn signal and was released to a sober person.
