Seth A. Anderson, 23, of 229 N. Detroit St., was charged Monday with aggravated menacing.
Around 4:30 a.m. officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to Speedway, 329 S. Main St., and learned he entered the station wanting to buy cigarettes. The clerk refused the sale because he had no identification.
She also declined to sell cigarettes to a woman who came in with the suspect.
He then approached the clerk and threatened to shoot her if she did not sell him cigarettes. She retreated to the office and called police.
Surveillance video corroborated the clerk’s account, officers report, and helped identify the suspect. Video also showed the suspect driving as the duo left the station.
He was located at 220 Lawrence St. around 10:30 p.m. and served a summons. He admitted begin at the store but claimed he never threatened the clerk nor did he have a gun.
Officers also cited him for driving under suspension.
Driver charged with OVI
Shane M. Smith, 32, of 309 E. Columbus Ave., was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for speeding after a 1:30 a.m. traffic stop Monday.
His vehicle was recorded by radar traveling at 51 mph in a 25-mph zone on Garfield Avenue east of Sandusky Avenue.
He was stopped in the 300 block of south Main Street. Officers noted an odor of alcohol while talking with him
Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence and a breathalyzer sample of 0.161 was recorded at the department.
He was released to a sober driver.
