Ethics concerns cited
Even as outside groups work for the development of a potential casino in Logan County, two Russells Point village officials have turned down an out-of-state trip to visit a similar casino in person, citing possible ethics violations.
In a regular meeting Monday of the Russells Point Village Council, Mayor Robin Reames and Police Chief Joe Freyhof declined an invitation to travel to Oklahoma for a review of a casino and hotel resort similar to the one the Eastern Shawnee Tribe and its developer, Ohio Reservation Development LLC, seek to build on 50 acres of land near Lewistown.
The potential trip west to Seneca, Okla. to visit the Indigo Sky Casino was first discussed at council’s previous meeting, but the mayor and police chief have since refused the invitation based on a review of Ohio ethics laws for government officials.
