Mary Elizabeth Guckert, 86, of Bellefontaine, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 22, 2017, at her home.
Mary was born in Logan County on July 19, 1931, to the late Charles A. and Edith Shoots Rice. She married Henry J. Guckert on March 25, 1951, in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2000. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Ralph A. Rice, Glenn A. Rice and Paul I. Rice; sisters, Lois Anne Koengeter and Miriam Wilcox; and a son-in-law, Lonnie Steward.
Mary worked at Westinghouse for a few years after she married Henry, then raised her family. She loved children, was a caretaker to many and didn’t know a stranger. Mary spent time as a 4-H leader, a music parent and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of BLF&E. She was a member of the Lucky 13 card club and enjoyed bowling in her younger years. Mary was a member of Bellefontaine First Christian Church and was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship.
Mary is survived by her children, Tamara Guckert of Columbus, Pamela Steward of Tampa, Brian Guckert of Florida and Tim Guckert of Bellefontaine; three grandchildren, Lacie (Jason) Sinn, Jason (Katie) Steward and Karen Guckert; nine great-grandchildren; four siblings, Ruth Caldwell of Urbana, Esther Allison of Northville, Mich., John Rice of Cincinnati and Charles Robert Rice of Charleston, S.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Rev. Bob Thornton officiates the funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where calling is two hours prior. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 215 E. Sandusky Ave., Bellefontaine, OH 43311, and Universal Home Health Hospice, 701 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
