Martha Jean Yale, 92, of Waynesfield, died Saturday night, Feb. 6, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Martha was born on May 11, 1923 in Rushsylvania, to the late Clarence and Myrtle Williams Edgington.
She married John O. “Jack” Yale on Dec. 12, 1944, in Waynesfield, and he preceded her in death Sept. 25, 2012. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Byron and James.
Martha is survived by four daughters, Anita (Dave) Williamson of Kenton, Deborah Georg and Beverly (Bill) Pfeiffer, both of Columbus, and Martha (Tim) Manchester of Lakeview, seven grandchildren, Brian Donnelly, Bruce (Shannon) Donnelly, Karen (Caleb) Wilson, Bill (Jeanette) Manchester, Susan Manchester, Carrie Georg and Jacqueline Pfeiffer; two stepgrandchildren, Carrie (Marvin) Williamson-Pena and Dan (Angela) Williamson; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kaley, Brady, Jack, Oliviya, Emeliya, Meredith, Eva and Lydia; six great-stepgrandchildren, Paige, Abby, Alex, Samantha, Desmond and Hannah; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Edgington of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Madeline Edgington of Columbus.
Martha was a 1941 graduate of Waynesfield High School and 1944 graduate of Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Lima Memorial Hospital. Martha was an active member of Waynesfield Baptist Church, formerly serving as financial secretary and was a longtime Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Lima Memorial Nursing Alumni.
Martha enjoyed gardening and feeding her birds, especially hummingbirds. She also enjoyed reading, working puzzles and playing Scrabble. Her greatest joy were her children and grandchildren and their visits.
Pastor Don Smith begins a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Waynesfield Baptist Church. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview, and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield.
