Marilyn Ann Carnes, 57, of Bellefontaine, went home to be with the Lord at 1:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
She was born in Kenton on Dec. 16, 1959, to Audry Louise Baughman Overly and the late Carl Eugene Overly. She was preceded in death by a sister, the Rev. Janet L. Overly Lewis.
On March 17, 1979, Marilyn married Gary Carnes in Bellefontaine and he survives along with three children, Bradley (Jen Newton) Carnes of Ridgeway, Courtney (T.J.) Yoder of DeGraff and Kelley Lewis of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren, Joshua Carnes, Preston Carnes, Hayden Yoder and Savannah Yoder; two brothers, Mark (Linda) Overly and Charles (Linda) Overly and a sister, Suzann Ross, all of Bellefontaine; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn worked as a registered nurse at the Mary Rutan Hospital Family Birth Center for 38 years where she touched the lives of many and brought countless babies into the world. She volunteered as an adviser for the Young Riders 4-H Club for 18 years and enjoyed teaching kids about horses. Her hobbies included riding, cooking and spending endless hours with her grandkids.
She particularly loved being on her horse and seeing God’s beauty on the many trails she rode on. Marilyn was also a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Bellefontaine.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine.
Pastor Ed Beale officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where visitation is from 10 to11 a.m. Burial follows in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made, in Marilyn’s memory, to the Marilyn A. Carnes Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o Mary Rutan Foundation, 205 Palmer Ave., Bellefontaine, OH 43311 and to the Marilyn A. Carnes 4-H Horse Education Fund & Scholarship, c/o Logan County 4-H Horse Committee, 1100 S. Detroit St., Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
