Marie Elizabeth Nolan Riddle, 89, of West Liberty, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2016, at Logan Acres Care Center.
Marie was born in Bellefontaine on April 19, 1927, to the late David E. Nolan and Elizabeth Kieber Nolan Rush. She married Ralph Sidney Riddle on Aug. 22, 1948, at the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death May 30, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Nancy Nolan.
A 1945 graduate of Belle Center High School, she attended Moore’s Business College. She worked as a secretary at Equity Dairies for nine years. Marie then went to work as a secretary to the vice president and general manager for Miller-Meteor in Bellefontaine and Piqua. She worked there for 21 years, before retiring in 1979 when the plant closed.
Marie loved riding horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. She loved her dogs, planting her garden and flowers and just being in the country after her retirement. Marie was also fond of the Wednesday nights spent with her lady friends.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine, and was active in the United Methodist Women’s Association. Marie was also an avid reader. In her younger years, she and Ralph enjoyed square dancing and traveling.
Marie is survived by her brother, Marion E. “Bud” Nolan of Sevierville, Tenn.; nephew, Doug Nolan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; nieces, Debi Stovall-Nolan of Seymour, Tenn., and Cindy (Ron) Dickson of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother-in-law Carl (Marie) Riddle of Raleigh, N.C.; and an “adopted” grandson, Shane Yoder of Bellefontaine and his parents Kenneth and Miriam Yoder of West Liberty. Shane was a great help to Marie, especially as Ralph’s health declined. After Ralph died, with Shane’s help, Marie was able to stay in her home.
Pastor H. Kearns officiates the funeral service at 1p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where visitation is one hour prior to the funeral. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
