Marcus “Mark” E. Hanna, 79. of Kenton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with his loving family by his bedside.
He was born in Kenton on March 10, 1937, to the late Rex W. and Louise F. Fink Hanna. He married Brenda G. Daugherty and she survives in Kenton.
Mark is also survived by his children, Matthew R. Hanna, Dane M. Hanna and Marcy J. (Chris) Herman, and their mother Joyce A. Blumenschine Cannarozzi; stepson, Matthew A. (Trichia) Clum; grandsons, William Christopher, Dane Matthew, Jack Henry and Marcus Robert Herman; stepgranddaughter, Camilla Jo Clum; sister, Carolyn L. McCullough; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.
Mark also was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Peper; and his godson, Gregory Peper.
Mark graduated from Kenton High School in 1955 and attended The Ohio State University where he received his bachelor of arts degree in 1959 and his juris doctorate degree in 1961.
Mark returned to Kenton and began practicing law with his father. Most of his career he was associated with Robert G. Reed Jr. and he retired in 2001.
He was of counsel for the law firm of Thompson, Dunlap and Heydinger in Bellefontaine from 1987-1988 and served as corporate counsel for Golden Giant Inc. from 1988 until 2001.
He served one term as solicitor of the City of Kenton and served as solicitor of the villages of Forest, Ridgeway, Mt. Victory and Dunkirk for many years.
Mark served on the boards of directors of The Kenton Savings Bank (Banc Ohio) and The Home Savings & Loan Company of Kenton. He was a past member of the executive committee of the Ohio State Bar Association and served on the board of trustees of the Ohio Bar Title Insurance Corporation.
He was a former member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Hardin County Bar Association, several local fraternal and civic organizations and the Ohio National Guard. He was an Eagle Scout.
Mark thrived on the love of his family and friends, doted on his chocolate labrador, Hank, and loved all things natural.
Memorial services are at noon Friday, Sept. 30, at St. John’s Evangelical Church, 211 E. Carrol St., Kenton, with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating and where visitation is two hours prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hardin County Community Foundation.
