Casey S. Barney, 51, of 5120 S. County Road 31, was charged Saturday, Nov. 19, with theft, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
Tricia Clair, an employee of Lowe’s, 2168 S. Main St., reported at 5:45 p.m. she lost her wallet while working on Friday, Nov. 18.
A review of surveillance video footage shows a white male suspect going through the pocket of Clair’s coat after she laid it down in the tool area. The suspect took the wallet and walked from the store to a pickup truck registered to Barney.
Barney met with officers on Saturday wearing the same hat as the suspect in the video. He acknowledged turning the coat over twice as it was left in an odd place, claimed there was nothing in the pocket and denied taking the wallet.
He was arrested and lodged in Logan County Jail.
Suspect accused of assault
Eric D. Henry, 18, of 429 Clark Ave., was charged Monday, Nov. 21, with assault after a 5:25 a.m. incident at 432 N. Main St.
Latosha Y. Jefferson told officers she heard noises coming from her daughter’s room and found the suspect. She alerted Ryan C. Marvel who confronted the suspect.
Henry allegedly attacked Marvel causing visible injuries.
The suspect was arrested and lodged in jail.
Motorist charged with OVI
Stephen G. Scheifele, 55, of 846 N. Township Road 31, was charged Friday, Nov. 18, with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
He was stopped shortly before 4:10 p.m. at the drive-up window of Subway, 800 S. Main St., after officers responded to a report of an intoxicated motorist.
Officers made contact with Scheifele in a pickup truck and noted an odor of alcohol. He reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol. His eyes were glassy and bloodshot.
He was instructed to exit the pickup and walk with an officer while another officer drove the pickup to a parking spot.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence and he was taken into custody.
His breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.211.
He was released to his wife and daughter.
