Calvin L. Davis, 56, of 428 Clark Ave., Bellefontaine, was charged with felonious assault and domestic violence related to an incident Saturday evening in Lakeview.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 5:30 p.m. to 11458 State Route 720 for a domestic violence complaint and observed a man and woman in the barn area behind the home. The woman talked out to speak with deputies.
Deputies observed that she had a black eye and that her neck was red. She told deputies that during an argument, Davis had grabbed her by the neck and pushed her against a refrigerator in the barn. During the altercation, the woman told deputies she was able to call her friend and asked to her call law enforcement.
Relating to the black eye, the female victim told deputies that Davis had injured her about a week prior, but she did not report it.
Davis also was interviewed by deputies, and he stated that the woman had slapped him and “that’s all that happened.” Deputies did not observe any marks on the defendant. He was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Phillip M. Wallace, 36, of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 9, Bellefontaine, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Sunday at Old Field Beach, 11252 N. State Route 235.
Deputies responded about 4:50 p.m. to a domestic complaint and were advised that the male party was leaving the beach area in a vehicle. Deputies located Wallace’s vehicle in the area of S.R. 235 near the entrance to the beach area and conducted a traffic stop.
Wallace told deputies he had been in a verbal argument with his girlfriend, so he left the area to calm down.
However, deputies spoke with a witness to the argument at the beach area, who stated that the pair had been arguing in a vehicle and that the woman was trying to get out of the vehicle. She eventually was able to flee from the vehicle, but the witness said the man chased after her and then had his hands around her neck.
The witness said he stepped between the man and woman and was able to separate them, and then the man fled the scene.
Wallace’s girlfriend initially declined to provide a statement, but later told deputies that Wallace had tried to choke her.
The defendant was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail. He also was cited for driving with a suspended license.
OVI, child endangering charges filed
Lindsay M. Tilton, 30, of 11083 Mohawk Path, Lakeview, was charged with child endangering, criminal trespass and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident early Friday morning.
Deputies responded about 12:50 a.m. to 16098 N. S.R. 235, Apt. 28, Belle Center, on a report from a resident that Tilton was refusing to leave the property and that she was intoxicated and had a child in her vehicle.
Earlier in the evening, deputies reportedly had spoken with Tilton regarding property recovery from her ex-husband’s home. She was advised deputies could provide a stand-by for property recovery the next day.
However, when the defendant arrived at the property again, deputies observed that she displayed signs of impairment. She told deputies that she had taken Zanex and Subutex.
She agreed to submit to field sobriety tests and then was placed under arrest. Tilton contacted a friend, who picked up her child at the scene. The defendant was transported to the jail.
• Zackery J. Brannan, 27, of Wapakoneta, was charged with OVI related to a crash Friday evening on S.R. 235 near State Route 366.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound 2021 Honda Accord about 5:50 p.m. and failed to negotiate a curve, traveling off the west side of the road. The vehicle then went south along the roadway and struck a utility pole and continued southbound, coming to rest along road signs.
The driver and his two passengers did not report any injuries.
While speaking with Brannan at the scene, deputies observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person. He told deputies he had consumed two beers prior to driving and declined to submit to field sobriety tests.
Another deputy then arrived on the scene and stated he had been tracking Brannan’s vehicle, reportedly traveling 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. The deputy had been attempting to catch up to the vehicle when he heard radio traffic that the same vehicle was involved in a crash.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the jail. He also was cited for speed and failure to control.
Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene.
• Scott A. Garmatter, 59, of Bluffton, was charged with OVI as a result of a traffic stop about 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the area of S.R. 235 and Township Road 266.
Deputies observed a speed violation and marked lane violations with his vehicle and initiated the stop. While speaking with the driver, they observed signs of impairment.
Garmatter submitted to field sobriety tests and deputies observed an open container of alcohol in the center console of the vehicle.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, where he refused to submit to a breath test. He also was cited for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and was released to a sober person.
Non-injury crash reported in construction zone
Kenneth A. Kline, 59, of East Liberty, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead related to a non-injury crash Thursday afternoon.
Deputies report he was operating an eastbound 2018 Chevrolet Silverado on U.S. Route 33 near County Road 5 about 1:50 p.m. in the right lane in a construction zone. His vehicle struck the rear of an eastbound 2017 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Dazzmine Cobb, 34, of Lima.
Damage was light to both vehicles. The drivers were wearing their seat belts.
