OAKLEY |
A Belle Center man who said he was trying to avoid a speeding ticket is now facing a felony fleeing and eluding charge, officers of the Washington Township Police Department report.
Officers attempted to stop a car driven by Dustin A. Oakley, 26, for speeding on State Route 366 near Township Road 94 at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Oakley continued west on S.R. 366 and turned south onto Lincoln Boulevard before running a stop sign at U.S. Route 33 and traveling westbound. He then failed to stop at the red light at State Route 708 and attempted to flee into a residential neighborhood.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department were assisting with the chase by that point and helped corner Mr. Oakley in the neighborhood.
He reportedly told officers he fled because he didn’t want another speeding ticket.
The fleeing charge was filed as a felony because of the danger to other motorists and pedestrians, officers report. Citations for speed and failure to obey traffic control devices were also filed.
Mr. Oakley was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
