The man who is being ordered by public health officials to clean up the Rushsylvania area property where 60 animals were found dead received a summons to appear in court.
William R. Shoots, 73, was served with the summons on Sunday afternoon while at Heartland of Bellefontaine, 221 School St., where he is recuperating from an injury for failure to comply with a health board order.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the case after livestock were seen wandering the road near the 4840 County Road 9 property. They found dozens of dead animals on the property.
Remaining animals were seized and sold at auction in early January and the Logan County Health Board issued orders to clean up the dead animals and solid waste or face further action.
Mr. Shoots must appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court on Wednesday, Feb. 1, the same day the health board will meet to discuss the next steps in the case.
