A Hilliard man and a Marysville woman were arrested on weapons and drug charges after a 1 a.m. traffic stop Tuesday.
Derrick W. Cordial, 25, was lodged in the Logan County Jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and possession charges for methamphetamine, marijuana, LSD, drug paraphernalia and marijuana drug paraphernalia.
Brittany D. Burney, 18, was arrested on possession charges for methamphetamine, marijuana, LSD, drug paraphernalia and marijuana drug paraphernalia.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed a black sport utility vehicle drive through a maintenance area of Mary Rutan Park which is posted with signs prohibiting through traffic.
He stopped the vehicle at High and Brown avenues. Upon reaching the vehicle, the officer detected an odor of marijuana and observed a large sheathed knife in a front seat back pocket.
Burney and Cordial both declined to allow a consensual search of the SUV. A second officer arrived and he, too, detected an odor of marijuana.
The defendants and two rear seat passengers were removed one at a time from the vehicle. Cordial admitted to having a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants. Officers took control of the handgun and secured it.
Both defendants acknowledged drugs were in the vehicle. Burney told officers “Everything that you find in the car will be mine.”
Marijuana and paraphernalia for preparing and smoking it were found in the vehicle along with a book bag containing more paraphernalia, LSD and methamphetamine and another magazine for the handgun found on Cordial.
Burney’s purse also was searched and more paraphernalia, LSD and methamphetamine were seized by police.
The amount of LSD found reach a bulk amount, officers report.
The passengers were released without charges.
Both Burney and Cordial were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
