Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, along with Rushcreek Township EMS and Bellefontaine Fire and EMS, responded about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to 147 Railroad St., Rushsylvania, on a report of a man who was trapped under a vehicle.
Deputies and paramedics found that the victim, Joe A. Shoemaker, 58, of that address, had a faint pulse and he was removed from underneath a sport utility vehicle and life-saving measures were initiated. He was transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Others at the residence reported he had been working to fix a tire on the vehicle. Upon investigating the scene, deputies said the vehicle had been lifted up on a mobile jack and the jack presumably gave out or rolled while Shoemaker was under the SUV.
They also noted that it was raining and the ground was wet in the area.
No evidence of foul play was observed.
