Colby S. Coy, 25, of 1480 Township Road 185, Bellefontaine, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility and having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident early Saturday morning.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report about 4:25 a.m. of a suspicious vehicle sitting off the road with its lights on in the area of T.R. 185.
Deputies located the vehicle in Coy’s driveway and observed that that vehicle’s brake lights and headlights were activated. They noticed that the driver, Coy, appeared to be asleep in the driver’s seat and attempted to wake him up.
While speaking with Coy, deputies noticed that his speech was slurred and his responses were delayed. He told deputies he had just opened the beer that was located in the center console. Deputies also noticed that the vehicle was in the drive position and asked the defendant to place it in park.
Coy submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department also assisted at the scene.
At the Logan County Jail, the defendant was asked by corrections staff whether he had any illegal items on his person and he said he did not. However, during a pat down search of his person, corrections staff located a pipe with brown residue, five suspected Xanax bars, along with a transport vile containing a crystal powder that was found in his sock, deputies said.
• Alanis V. Bowmer, 24, of 220 S. Madriver St., Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a crash Thursday afternoon.
Deputies report she was operating a westbound 2004 Honda Pilot on County Road 26 near State Route 292 about 4:10 p.m. when she traveled off the north side of the road, and then back onto the road and off the south side. The vehicle struck the ditch, continuing southwest and sideswiping a utility pole before coming to rest in a field.
Damage was heavy to the sport utility vehicle, which was towed from the scene.
Bowmer did not report any injuries.
While on the scene, deputies said the driver displayed signs of impairment and she said she had consumed one beer before attempting to drive home that day. The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the jail, where she also submitted to a urine test, with results pending. She also was cited for speed and failure to control and was released to a sober driver.
Man charged with felony domestic violence
Edward S. Langley, 33, of 105 E. Buckeye St., Belle Center, was charged with child endangering and a felony count of domestic violence related to an incident Thursday evening.
Deputies were dispatched to his residence about 11:45 p.m. on a report of an 11-year-old boy being assaulted by his father.
Deputies reportedly had just been at the residence on a call regarding the 11-year-old having a knife, but no verbal threats had been made and no arrests took place at that time.
After deputies first left the home, other witnesses at the residence said Langley had screamed at the boy, and then “headbutted” and punched the child in the head and slammed him against a wall.
Deputies observed that the child had sustained swelling to the right side of the head and a mark on his right arm.
Langley was placed under arrest and was transported to the jail. He was issued the felony charge because of a prior domestic violence conviction in Michigan in 2011.
Logan County Children’s Services also has been contacted.
Teen transported from hit-skip crash
Jackson R. Newland, 18, of West Mansfield, was transported by private vehicle to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in a hit-skip crash Saturday evening.
Deputies report he was operating a northbound 2009 Honda Civic on County Road 124 at the intersection of C.R. 26 about 5:50 p.m.
A westbound vehicle operated by an unknown driver on C.R. 26 reportedly failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and struck the rear bumper of the Civic.
Newland reportedly swerved in attempted to miss the other vehicle and traveled off the northwest side of the intersection, coming to rest in a field. The other vehicle then fled the scene.
Damage was heavy to the Newland vehicle, which was towed from the scene. Deputies continue their investigation.
• Nicholas W. Benson, 38, of West Liberty, was checked at the scene of a crash early Thursday morning by Macochee EMS personnel, but was not transported from the scene.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Impala in the 5500 block of south U.S. Route 68 about 12:20 a.m. when two deer ran across the road and he swerved to miss the deer. The driver then lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement and struck a concrete culvert.
Damage was heavy to the vehicle. The driver received a seat belt violation.
