LUCIUS |
A Seminole Island man was charged with third-degree felony child endangering Tuesday related to injuries sustained by a 7-year-old girl who was in his custody, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Scott Lucius, 50, of 10231 Seminole Shore Drive, Huntsville, was lodged in the Logan County Jail about 6:20 p.m.
Indian Lake Schools officials reportedly contacted Logan County Children’s Services Tuesday after observing bruising on the 7-year-old. Deputies said the bruising was severe and was located on her back and around to her ribs, and also on her arms.
The defendant serves as the custodial parent of the victim and her four siblings ranging in age from 2 to 13, but is not the biological parent of the children, Logan County Sheriff Randall J. Dodds noted.
During interviews with the victim and her siblings, deputies learned that Lucius disciplined the 7-year-old with a belt Saturday, and that he reportedly uses the belt for discipline on some of the other children as well.
Deputies interviewed the defendant, and he admitted to using a belt as a form on discipline on the girl, but denied causing the injuries. The girl was later transported by family members to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for evaluation.
The other children have been removed from the home by Logan County Children’s Services and are now in the custody of other family members.
