A city man was arrested about 9 p.m. Sunday after he drove a stolen pickup truck through the rear yards in the 600 block of Detroit Street.
Cole Turner, 19, of 555 Newell St., Apt. 1, has been charged with two counts of felonious assault on a peace officer and single counts of vandalism and theft of a motor vehicle.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department received multiple calls of loud revving motor sounds near 704 S. Detroit St., and upon arrival, observed a pickup truck northbound in an alley. They watched as the pickup struck a fire hydrant and became stuck.
The suspect continued to race the motor in an effort to break free.
Using public address systems in the cruiser, officers tried to get him to shut down the vehicle and exit, but he ignored the orders.
The pickup was dislodged from the hydrant and Turner continued northward driving through rear yards until the pickup slammed into a tree at 624 S. Detroit St.
