John C. Watkins, 26, of 1121 W. Sandusky Ave., was charged Saturday with two counts of domestic violence.
Around 1:10 p.m., officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department arrived at the residence and met with his wife, Shelby. She told officers the suspect put his hands on her throat, pushed her against a window, whipped her with cord, hit the left side of her face with his hand and struck her in the back.
He also allegedly struck his girlfriend, Sarah Campbell, when she tried to stop the assaults.
Both women had visible injuries.
He reportedly admitted to hitting the women and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Charges filed in traffic stops
Stephanie K. McClain, 33, of 636 Henry St., was charged with possession of criminal tools and Edwin A. Ford, 41, of 113 E. Auburn Ave., was cited for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Officers stopped McClain after she failed to use a turn signal while turning from Heritage Drive onto Ludlow Road around 7 p.m. Monday.
Upon contact, an officer, who was aware of her past criminal history, asked about the possibility of illegal items on her or in her vehicle. She told him of a pipe for smoking marijuana and a set brass knuckles in her purse. Both were recovered by the officer.
Ford volunteered he had an open can of malt liquor in the vehicle. It was emptied and disposed of.
• Patricia M. Taulbee, 56, of 117 Orchard Ave., was charged Saturday with possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia after a 12:40 p.m. traffic stop.
She was cited for shortcutting an intersection and driving the wrong way on a one-way drive.
She was observed driving through the Bellefontaine Municipal Building parking lot from Sandusky Avenue before traveling west to east to exit onto Detroit Street.
Once stopped, officers approached the driver’s side and detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the car. She admitted to having a glass pipe with marijuana residue and turned it over to police.
• Brandon M. Crayfraft, 22, of 813 Heritage Court, Apt. 60, was cited for having an open container of alcohol in motor vehicle after a 4:40 p.m. traffic stop Wednesday.
He was a passenger in a car stopped for no front license plate. A mostly empty bottle of liquor was found under his seat and he had an odor of alcohol on his breath.
Police charge man for identity theft
Brian Rhyan, 27, at large, was charged Sunday with identity fraud after he lied about his identity.
Around 10:50 p.m., he was observed in the driveway to Super Motel 8, 1117 N. Main St., throwing his hands up in the air.
He was found in the parking lot and asked about his identity. He was able to provide a Social Security number for another individual.
When officers checked a photograph and physical description matching the SSN, it was apparent Rhyan was lying.
